The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) is a regional non-governmental organization dedicated to building the capacity of West African civil society organizations for increased sustainability, operational and development effectiveness.
WACSI launched the Next Generation Internship programmer (NGIP) in January 2008 in response to an observed need for structured practical capacity building for young West Africans. The program aims to create the next generation of African scholars and practitioners. The program is primarily aimed at young West Africans who are either recent graduates or early-career professionals looking for work experience in WACSI’s primary areas of expertise. Interns are required to commit to WACSI for six months, during which they will be actively involved in all WACSI activities and improve their knowledge and capacities for leadership, knowledge and program management, and major development concerns for West Africa, among other things.

As a result, WACSI is looking for an intern from the West African sub-region who is interested in expanding their civic awareness and professional capacity.
They will be integrated into WACSI’s key areas of operation, which are policy influence and advocacy, as well as knowledge management.
Applicants must have a first-year degree in international affairs, political science, public policy, law, development studies, or a field connected to these fields.
Applicants should also have an interest in civic society and non-profit management.
Benefits
This is a completely paid internship. The institute will provide interns with round-trip airfare to and from their home country, furnished housing, lunch on working days for the duration of the internship, and a monthly stipend.
Requirements
Applicants with a strong command of English, French, or Portuguese, as well as a solid knowledge of another language, will be given preference.
The chosen intern will spend the majority of her/his internship at the WACSI office in Accra, Ghana.
The internship will run from January to June of 2023. Interns who are unable to finish the six-month internship will get a reimbursement from WACSI for the total cost of the internship package.
