Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships 2024-2025 | APPLICATION DETAILS

The Swiss Government offers two types of scholarships for foreign scholars and artists, respectively:

1. Research Scholarship: The research scholarship is open to post-graduate researchers in any discipline who hold a minimum of a master’s degree and plan to pursue further studies at the doctoral or post-doctoral level in Switzerland. These scholarships are awarded for research or study at Swiss cantonal universities, universities of applied sciences, federal institutes of technology, and four research institutes. Candidates must be nominated by an academic mentor at one of these higher education institutions to be considered.
2. Art Scholarship: Art scholarships are available for art students seeking to pursue an initial master’s degree in Switzerland. They are awarded for study at Swiss conservatories or universities of the arts. However, this scholarship is only open to students from a limited number of countries.

Eligibility Criteria:

The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships target young researchers from abroad who have completed a master’s degree or PhD, as well as foreign artists holding a bachelor’s degree. Ideal candidates should meet the following criteria:

1. International student status (foreign scholar or artist).
2. Admission to a Master’s or PhD program.
   • For Master’s program: Hold, or about to obtain, an undergraduate degree (or international equivalent) from a reputable institution.
   • For PhD program: Hold a master’s-level qualification at merit or distinction (or international equivalent).
3. A track record of engaging with research, which may include contributions to publications/articles, promoting research to a wider audience, or receiving prizes for research or project work.

Selection Criteria:

The Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS) evaluates scholarship applications based on three key criteria:

3. Synergies and potential for future research cooperation.
